SusannaSonata proudly presents Propan & Stina Stjern’s collaborative album ‘Shrew’.
The word shrew refers to a woman perceived as quarrelsome, fussy, hot-tempered, its an old-fashioned and sexist label historically used for women who refuse submissive roles. It is also slang for witch. ‘Shrew’ becomes a soundtrack to these women’s gatherings, their rituals, their quiet conspiracies. A nocturnal party for those who move in the shadows.
Since forming in 2011, Propan has developed a singular musical language centred around the voice, exploring its textures, roles, and possibilities. Over the years, the duo has gained recognition in experimental music for its daring, uncompromising approach.
On ‘Shrew’, Propan appears almost as a three-headed creature, joined by Stina Stjern, forming a tightly woven sonic universe.
The album unfolds slowly and patiently, revealing a dark, psychedelic and subtly disturbing landscape. It evokes tactile imagery: food being prepared, raw materials handled, juices dripping, hands getting dirty, skin getting wet. Layers of sound accumulate into an intense and enveloping environment where textures and tones merge into something ritualistic and alive.
Available on limited cassette and digital formats.
